Swaine House
Where To Stay Rose Park, Burnside, South Australia
Swaine House in South Australia was built in 1900 as part of the original development of Rose Park by the South Australia Company.
It is constructed in the classic Adelaide villa style with freestone facing and wrought iron lacework detailing on the verandah. The original structure consists of six main rooms which are now constituted as four bedrooms, a sitting room and a family bathroom.
The house was extensively renovated and extended over the course of 2014 and 2015. The family bathroom was re-modelled and a walk-in robe and en-suite were added to the master bedroom. The original features of the property were retained, including plaster detailing on the ceilings and the original skirting boards.
An open plan kitchen, dining, living and outdoor area was constructed to the rear of the original dwelling, with a ceiling height which reflects the proportions of the original structure. The house effectively combines the original character with modern amenities, and is heritage listed in South Australia as an original residence contributing to the heritage value of the area.
