The Old Swan Barracks
Where To Stay Perth, Perth, Western Australia
The Old Swan Barracks is called barracks for a reason. It has a history, a heritage and a legacy. Before becoming a backpacker hostel, the Old Swan Barracks was a barracks that was built by the British Army in 1896. It was built to train militia and occupy military presence in Western Australia.
The building was built with limestone that gives it a romantic fortress appearance. Now this beautiful piece of history is available for anyone and everyone. Of course, they offer modern amenities that you may expect at any 21-century hostel. It also houses a bar for its guests and most weeks there are events hosted in its drill hall for guests and the public.
The new Western Australian Museum is just across the road opposite The Old Swan Barracks.
