Windeward Bound Sailing Adventures
Things To Do Hobart, Hobart, Tasmania
The Windeward Bound Trust operates the ‘STV Windeward Bound’.
Captain Sarah built the square rigged Tall Ship 21 years ago and has since been providing memorable experiences for youth and adults who have the opportunity to sail with them.
Their unique eight-day cruise travels through Tasmania’s beautiful World Heritage area of Port Davey, an untouched bay full of natural wonder. Let them take you to some of Tasmania’s most spectacular and inaccessible places, including Melaleuca, the gateway to the southwest and South East Cape where our early settlers turned north to establish Hobart. You will be immersed in jaw-dropping scenery, incredible pioneer history and abundant nature and wildlife.
The Windeward Bound also offers the opportunity for locals and tourists to see Hobart from the water with regularly scheduled three-hour afternoon sails departing from Elizabeth Street Pier.
With over 20 years of experience operating in and around the waters of Tasmania, Australia, and New Zealand, Captain Sarah Parry and her crew will make you feel like a personal guest.

Imagine a natural waterway older than time itself. A waterway larger and more intricate than Sydney Harbour. A waterway that has never been settled by European humans and more importantly, it never will be. Can such a place still exist in this mad crazy and violent modern world? And where could it possibly be, and how can you visit this enigma?
The answer lies only 115 nautical miles from Hobart, 115 miles in distance and a thousand years in time. The incredible World Heritage Area of southwest Tasmania holds one of the world’s best-kept secrets in Port Davey and Bathurst Harbour – bigger than Sydney Harbour – mile upon mile of never settled waterways, totally sheltered from the sometimes wild Southern Ocean, a network of unique marine life undisturbed for millennia.
Windeward Bound offers a unique and exclusive opportunity aboard our 35 metre Sail Training Brigantine with a strictly limited number of 10 adventurers per voyage. Discover this untouched wilderness twice a year, in March and November. You just need yourself and your sense of wonderment and adventure.

Join them for a relaxing sail along the Derwent River aboard Tasmania’s largest tall ship. There is no better way to experience the charming beauty of Hobart than from the water. Enjoy the sound of the waves lapping at the hull, feast on their prized local cheeses, have a siesta in the sun or shade, and take photos of the local wildlife – if you’re lucky, you’ll see a dolphin or whale!
The ticket price includes a light lunch, gourmet Tasmanian fruit and cheese platter, and bottomless tea, coffee, and Milo. They also welcome guests to bring their own beer, wine, or non-alcoholic beverages.
For the most comfortable experience, they recommend wearing layers, even when the weather is forecast to be warm. The temperature is always several degrees cooler on the water than on land, and locals know that Tassie’s weather can change in an instant. If you choose to bring a hat, please make sure it can attach securely to your head.
