The Waifs – ENCORE at The Tivoli, Brisbane

Folk-rock veterans The Waifs will return to The Tivoli for the 8th time since 2007 as part of their ENCORE series.

Originally performing Bob Dylan covers in and around bars in Australia, the sister duo of Vikki and Donna Simpson were known as COLOURS. Formed in 1992 and touring constantly in their homeland, the pair hooked up with Josh Cunningham and rebadged to The Waifs.

A loyal following and hectic touring resulted in three albums: the group’s self-titled debut in 1996, 1998’s Shelter Me, and 2000’s Sink or Swim.

The Waifs’ musical honesty was captured once again with their critically acclaimed follow-up, Up All Night, in 2003. In 2004, the live double-disc A Brief History was released, though the Waifs wouldn’t deliver their studio follow-up until 2007’s Sun Dirt Water. A second live album, Live from the Union of Soul, was released in 2009. Their sixth album, Temptation, arrived in 2011.

By 2015, the Waifs had resumed touring in anticipation of their seventh album, Beautiful You. To celebrate their 25th anniversary, they released the double album Ironbark in 2017. In 2023 they will hit the road again in celebrating 30 years as a band.

The Waifs are presented as part of The Tivoli’s ENCORE Series, which sees iconic Australian acts that have played The Tivoli three or more times return for a one-off, special performance.
