Memory Mountain
Things To Do Haasts Bluff, MacDonnell, Northern Territory
Located in the spectacular far west MacDonnell Ranges and 230km from Alice Springs, Memory Mountain is home to The Cross, a 20m high symbol of the faith and culture of the local Indigenous communities.
This is the Indigenous-led vision of the western desert communities of Haasts Bluff, Papunya, Mt Liebig and Kintore.
While the Memory Mountain precinct is still very much a work in progress, visitors can experience guided climbs to the summit with an authorised local Indigenous guide. Bookings must be made well in advance. The 960 metre trek to the summit of Memory Mountain takes approximately 30 – 40 minutes. Make sure you bring plenty of water and suitable walking shoes.
The climb exposes the vast landscapes and majestic beauty of the region with 360 degree views from the summit. This is one for the bucket list and a must-do on your visit to the Red Centre.
