Montague Island is a small continental island within the Montague Island Nature Reserve, located 9km offshore from the South Coast region of New South Wales. It is the second largest island off the New South Wales coast after Lord Howe Island and is home to hundreds of seals and more than 90 bird species and little penguins. The island is approximately 81 hectares that can be explored via a walking track. Guided tours are operated by the National Parks and Wildlife Service in association with private operators and offer the opportunity to snorkel with the seals.
A remote haven for nature lovers or for those who have dreamt of being cast away on a deserted island, it offers a unique experience to enjoy a stay at the historic Assistant Lighthouse Keeper’s Cottage that sleeps up to 8 people or the Head Lighthouse Keepers Cottage that sleeps 12. Packages include a 2.5 hour tour and transport to and from the island.
